NACC Newsletter – August 2025

"43 years of Conservation"

NACC’s next meeting to be held on Wednesday, August 13 , at 7 pm in the club house.
SCHOOL HAS STARTED - WATCH OUT FOR SCHOOL BUS STOPS AND KIDS!!!

Have you attended a NACC meeting lately? This month may be your time! Meetings only last an hour and fifteen minutes or so. Always start with the pledge of allegiance, then introduction of non-members. Minutes are read from previous meetings, a treasurer
report, then bills submitted for payment and approved. Trustees usually give an update status on the club house and club grounds on things that were attended to or need attention. Old business is addressed if need be. Then we move on to new business that members want to address or bring to the club's attention. A review of our club's Calendar of Events is sometimes brought to light here. And finally a report on conservation items, DNR updates, or news from the Indiana Wildlife Federation are presented and discussed. Meeting adjourned! All get to enjoy a fabulous lunch prepared by trustee Gutz. Please come and share some of your conservation stories of interest that may be happening in your backyard, so others may enjoy and learn from them.

Our 19th Annual Golf Outing is on September 20 at Brookhill Golf Course, all proceeds benefit 5th & 6th grade kids going to the Karl E. Kelly Conservation Camp. 18 holes, tee time 8am, prizes, morning breakfast & prime rib dinner at the club house. Cost is the same at $300 per four man team, plus optional $20 skins per team. Chairman, Casey Gilmore 812-577-5078 is collecting hole sponsors, Co-Chair,Slugger Kuebel is getting the teams signed up , call him 812-221-0397. We are hoping for 26 teams again, and would like to add 2 more teams if the course allows? Co-Chair, George Schmeltzer, will be serving his famous prime rib dinner. We appreciate all our members playing the tournament, but if your not golfing, we need volunteers to work at the golf course in the morning and we need volunteers to help George at the club house preparing food too. If that doesn't fit your schedule, Friday, Sept. 19 at 1PM we can use help setting up canopies, tables and chairs. Let these guys know if you can help out in any way.

It is time to start thinking about planting tree seedlings for next spring. Every fall our club takes up an order and places it through the DNR state nursery at Vallonia, IN. Our DEADLINE is September 25th. Contact Dale 812-212-2601 for info. He has available a list of seedlings that can be sent to you by "email" for viewing if you like. And it'll be listed on our website soon.

SCATTER BOARD Squares are available to purchase at the meeting, Two dollars per square. Winner takes $35.00 of it.

Our new NACC logo flag will be flying at this meeting, This is a first for the club in its 43 years of existence.

Executive Board Semi-annual audit/business review will be presented at this meeting.

IWF - Indiana Wildlife Federation reported it didn't support the Trump Big Beautiful Bill in congress because a R-Senator from Utah added an amendment to allow "the sale of public lands" in it. But after the bill passed the House of Representative and moved to the
Senate, the senator received so much opposition to his amendment to allow the sale of public land, he amended and removed the sale of public lands in the bill and it passed. One note on the state of Utah, over 70% of the state of Utah is public land.

DNR - If you are hearing shooting in nearby woods, squirrel season is opening up! The DNR has numerous exhibits at the ongoing Indiana State Fair, running Aug.1-17, closed on Mondays. August is National Shooting Sports Month, Introduce a friend to sport
shooting, or simply come to watch. This first step can ease the nerves and spark a lifelong interest.

Yours in Conservation,
Chuck Schmeltzer, President Phone: 812-623-4103
