NACC Newsletter – November 2023

NACC’s next meeting to be held on Wednesday, November 8th, at 7 pm in the club house.

It is November, the leaves are falling, a little chill in the air, the busy summer is behind us, but here at the club we are looking for members to get more involved and make us a better club in the future.  Next month we will begin accepting 2024 membership dues.

This month  our club opens  nominations for the 2024 Election of officers and trustees. Nominations are being accepted at this meeting in November and  the next December meeting  prior to the election taking place.  If you or if you know of anyone interested in serving the organization in this capacity, please come forward.  We are always looking to better the organization for our members.

TREE SEEDLINGS for 2024 spring delivery has been confirmed from the Vallonia State Tree Nursery.  Some trees ordered were out of stock, of those  other trees were order by individuals that were in stock at the time.  We should be receiving 440 tree seedlings  next spring.  We have actually quit recording the total number of tree seedlings that the club has ordered since the beginning, about  ten years ago when it  reached 55,000.  Quite a record!!!  It would take a lot of research to bring it up to date.  Trustee Dave Henlein has volunteered to pick up our tree order next spring, which saves on the FedEx shipping charge of  $50 per bundle of seedlings.

Treasurer, Richard Kuebel has distributed all the Gun Raffle tickets.  On December 13 meeting  we will be raffling off a Mossberg Patriot Rifle, choice of  caliber, with a vortex scope and wood stock.  Or  you can get an “in-store credit” where we purchase it and pick your own gun of choice of equal or greater value, The Rusty Buck – Hunting & Outdoor Lifestyle in Batesville.  Tickets are $10.00 each.  We are only selling 250 tickets and will have some available at Klump’s Tavern too.  This is the club’s 3rd and final fund raiser for this year. Your participation is greatly appreciated.  For those selling tickets, remember to get them turned into Richard.

NACC is looking for 15 or more children in the 5th or 6th  grade who would be interested in attending the Indiana Conservation Officer  Organization’s – ICOO  Karl Kelly Youth Conservation Camp, which will be held this coming summer in June (usually the third week) for 7 days.  NACC will select children who sign up by February 1, 2024.  The cost of the camp is paid for by NACC.  If your child, nephew, niece or grandchildren likes  outdoor adventure, this camp is a must for them.  It is a full week of fun that they will enjoy and remember for a long time.    You can check out their website,   www.icoo.com  where you can view past information at this time and after the first of year, the new information will be available,  as in the past.   Remember  all registration must go through the NACC for us to pay.  Providing  the child’s name, a contact person and phone number and e-mail address are essential to enter and complete our camp forms.  CONTACT  NACC Secretary, Dale Back at  backdale@gmail.com or text 812-212-2601 to register.  Don’t wait to long, we already have 2 campers on the list!

Last month’s Scatter Board winner was Preston Hampton.

Mark your 2024 Calendar -next year’s golf outing will be the 2nd Saturday, September 14th, due to some personal conflicts of CoChairs.

NACC HISTORY:  Currently the Dearborn Co. Auditor requested the club to refile our property tax exemption, so they could update records that they lost, and now are digitalizing all records.  What Dale found from gather records for this,  when we first filled for  property tax exemption in 2006 we were declined.  We realized our Not-For Profit status with the state filings had not been kept up to date by our executive board.  That’s when the board started the long process of re-auditing financial records of the previous 5 years, so we could apply to be re-instated.  Once we got reinstated by the state, we proceeded in hiring a lawyer to file with the U.S. Govt for non-profit status, which we obtained our 501 C 4 federal tax status.  Lawyer fees were $800.00, and we paid the  Federal Govt processing fee of $850.00.  Finally in 2013, we filed with Dearborn Co. Auditor  for property tax exemption & was granted.  That saved us $900.00 in property taxes in 2014.  Congratulations to our current and past board members for a job well done.

Yours in Conservation,

Chuck Schmeltzer,  President              Phone:  812-623-4103
