NACC Newsletter – May 2024

NACC’s next meeting to be held on Wednesday, May 8, at 7 pm in the club house.

May 12 – Happy Mother’s Day

Our club now has a Face Book page for all members to join at this time. We would like to thank member Jennifer Klump for her time and efforts in researching this and getting things in order. Jennifer is our FB administrator and is in the process of sending out invites to our members to join the FB page if they so choose. Once you have joined, feel free to post conservation related items, and you will be able to keep up with other club announcements of sorts. Please be sure to follow the rules of the NACC administration.

Our 36th Annual Fishing Derby is May 4, at Lake in the Pines. We hope you have an opportunity to attend our community event.

GUN RAFFLE TICKETS are all distributed and it is time to begin turning in the money and stubs to Treasurer, Richard Kuebel. Raffle is to be held on June 12, 2024 at the club house meeting.

Eagle Scout Project of Dillon Rullman update – Included in the mailing today is a letter from Dillon requesting donations for his Eagle Scout Project. Please consider making a donation of any amount to the project to help Dillon reach his goal. Obtaining his Eagle Scout status shows his determination and dedication in making this project a success and will allow his parents to be proud of their son.

Trustees Report: Slugger Kuebel has been mowing grass pretty regularly to keep up with the fast growth this spring – Looks Good! Slugger also noted he has seen some red ear blue gill nesting in the gravel end of the pond. Gutz Callahan has added copper sulfate to the pond down by the dam side. Also Gutz, is getting the food order together for the lunch stand at the fishing derby & will be working with the young girl scouts and their mothers in the lunch stand.

Dave Henlein reported last month the bee hives were looking good, but the other day he told, the one hive became invaded by some type of beetle. So now he’s trying to mitigate the beetles. Dave is also in the process of getting some native wildflowers started in his green house for future planting below the pond dam in hopes of creating more habitat for the bees in the future.

Indiana Department of Natural Resources – IDNR announced the first positive CWD case in Indiana. The DNR confirmed the state’s first positive case of Chronic Wasting Disease – CWD in an adult male white-tailed deer harvested in LaGrange County. CWD is a fatal infectious disease, caused by a misfolded
protein called a prion, that affects the nervous system in white-tailed deer. It can spread from deer-to-deer contact, bodily fluids, or through contaminated environments and remains in the soil for many years. CWD has previously been detected in the four states bordering Indiana and is now found in 33 states. Because CWD had been detected in Michigan near the Indiana border, a detection in LaGrange County was likely. There have been no reported cases of CWD infection in people, but the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that hunters strongly consider having deer tested before eating the meat. The CDC also recommends that you do not eat meat from animal that tests positive for CWD. Find more info on CWD on DNR website. Source, dnr.IN.gov
