Dale gave the fishing derby results. He stated we had 85 payed sponsors this year, which allowed us to give every participant a door prize when registering. We had a total of 162 fishermen, with 40 free children under 12 and 122 paying adults. Our total prize give away at the derby was valued at $2892.62. We had a very good response to our Griddle Raffle, Pheasant Hunt Raffle and Tip boards that we sold at the derby. We had a gross income on the day of $7277.98 and after all expenses paid we managed a net income of $3628.12
A CHANGE FOR THE 2021 DERBY WAS PROPOSED AND PASSED. Next years derby hours will be shortened by two hours. The derby will start as usual with registration beginning at 6 am and derby starting at 7 am, but the derby will end at 3 pm. This has been discussed for a few years. It is thought this may encourage more people to stay for the awards ceremony and also allow families to have dinner at home with their children. This was in agreement with the Lake owners. Mark your calendar, next years derby will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2021.

DNR NEWS: Gov. Eric J. Holcomb has selected Dan Bortner to serve as the director of the Department of Natural Resources. Bortner has served as DNR’s director of Indiana State Parks since 2005 and is currently the third longest serving state parks director in the nation. As director of state parks, Bortner took the division from preparing to close facilities to consistently operating in the black with 98% saying they would recommend Indiana state parks to others. Infrastructure updated under Bortner’s leadership has led to improved campgrounds that are typically full each weekend, and our state park inns have the highest occupancy rate of any state park inn system in the country. Former director Cam Clark retired in July. Bortner will begin his new position on Aug. 3. |
